Genre: Realistic Fiction
Main Characters: Brian
Setting:1987, Broadway, New York
Summary: Thirteen-year old Brian Robeson is on his way to visit his father when the pilot driving the plane he is on, by himself has a heart attack, the plane crashes and Brian finds himself alone in the Canadian wilderness with nothing but a tattered Windbreaker and the hatchet his mother gave him as a present- and the dreadful secret that has been tearing him apart since his parents’ divorce. On the island Brian learns the ways of survival and learns how to cope with his struggles, with new accomplishments for every struggle that comes his way.
Review: I loved this book because it reminds me of my life but without the crashland on an island part. We both have divorced parents and the book has all the suspense, excitement, and meaningful words in it.
My favorite part in the book is when Brian catches his first fish, because that's a sign of accomplishment, and I love seeing people try and try again and finally master something.
I would recommend this book for kids ages 9-10 and up because there are some older and more dramatic parts in the book that really older middle school kids would understand.
