Main Characters: August (Auggie), his parents, his sister Olivia, and his friends Summer and Jack
Setting: present day Manhattan, New York
Summary: This book is about August Pullman, a ten-year-old boy who has severe facial abnormalities. He was homeschooled until fifth grade, when he attends Beecher Prep School. Auggie is very nervous and self-conscious as he attends a mainstream school for the first time and encounters children his own age. He struggles with feeling accepted by his peers, but is quickly befriended by Summer, the only student to sit with him at lunch. Despite the insecurity of some of his classmates, Auggie also finds a great friend in Jack, who comes to his defense when he is bullied. His other peers are not as quick to accept Auggie. His peers cannot overcome their discomfort with his appearance, until they attend an overnight class trip with neighboring schools. Auggie and Jack run into a group of older boys from another school who immediately start insulting Auggie. Some of Auggie's classmates, including ones who had previously been bullying him, come to his rescue. From that moment on, Auggie's classmates begin to truly accept him, and learn the importance of getting to know someone on the inside before judging him by the way he looks.
My Review: I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I found it moving and thought-provoking. I liked the narrative style of the book, as the reader experiences the story from multiple character viewpoints. Through the narration of other characters, we get a wider perspective on Auggie, and how he has influenced those around him. I would recommend Wonder to anyone, especially middle school students. Every middle school student can relate to the character of Auggie. Just like the typical middle schooler, he deals with the struggles of finding friends, getting along with his peers, and discovering a way to fit in. Author R.J. Palacio created the most realistic characters, making this compelling story very believable. This story will be memorable for anyone who has the opportunity to read it.
Main Characters: Alex, Jack, Razim, and Julius Grief
Setting: Cairo
Summary: Alex Rider is a 15 year old school boy living in england. Thousands of miles away a terrorist group called Scorpia is plotting against Alex, who has come across Scorpia before. Alex was sent to cairo to watch over someone who was suspected dangerous, little does Alex know he is going into a death trap. An old “friend” encounters Alex and Alex then is sucked into the cruel ways of Scorpia, I won’t say who was killed, but people were killed. I also won’t say if Alex escapes, I leave this to the reader. Finally, MI6, Alex’s “employer”, had planned to put Alex against Scorpia and then Scorpia, turns out, had played Alex and MI6 for the whole time and both fell into the trap.
Your Review: I really liked this book. I liked it because it was a real nerve racking story, it continued to leave me wanting more and more. My favorite part was when Alex escaped from his almost inevitable doom in a very well thought out way. My least favorite part of the book was the beginning, which for quite a while didn't include the main character, Alex, which left me in the dark because I need to know what alex is doing. I would recommend this book to everyone above the age of 10, but also to everyone who has read the eight other books before it. I would not recommend this book to people who don't like violence.
Why do you only recommend this to people above the age of ten? I started them when I was 9 but it was a very challenging read but I still continued although the struggle and was fine. Galen
Summary: Dak, Sera, and Riq travel back in time with the infinity ring to the era of the underground railroad. They find that Vigi the dog from the previous book has warped from the year 911. Dak uses his memory of the Viking Age to predict when they came find Vigi's owner. They warp there and give Vigi back, then they warp back to 1850 .They find it is raining and dark. They get cold and look for a place of shelter. When they finally come to a shack with a cornfield near it they go inside to get warm. Then they see a lone lantern on a house. When they go in the house they are captured by a slave trader. Riq is sold the next day so Sera and Dak rescue him. They have to follow clues to fix a break in history. Then they have to fight the SQ. Then they warp ahead in time to where they see their old friend Harriet Tubman. After that they have to warp away to Japan to fix the next break in history.
Review: I liked when they were fleeing from the slave traders and got into the fight with the SQ. I would recommend this book to anyone in 5-8 grade because it is an enjoyable book while you are still learning about history. It also has some challenging words for all ages.
Is this supposed to say warped from 911? I also wonder how to pronounce the names they all seem to be futuristic versions of modern day names would that be correct? What is SQ? Galen
Galen it is suppossed to say warped away from 911. The names are pronounced Rick, Dak, and Sarah. I am not sure if tthey are futuristic spellings. Jaerit The SQ Is a society that is trying to take over the world. Vigi was warped out of 911 because she was touching one of them. They have to go to japan because that is where the next break in history is that they need to fix. If you read the books before it it would make more sense. They need to travel back in time because Daks parents were captured and are now racing through history. Also if they dont fix the breaks in history because a cataclysm will happen.
Book :Title Bud not Buddy Author: Christopher Paul Curtis Number: of Pages 236 Genre: Realistic fiction Main Characters: Bud Setting : Flint Michigan, and The Grand Rapids Summary: This book is about 10 year old Bud who lives in Flint Michigan moving from foster home to foster home and the orphanage in between. Bud was left behind. That is when he decided to go to the Grand Rapids in search of the man meant to be his father. When he arrived he met the man and learned he wasn't the person he expected. If you want to learn what happens read the excellent book Bud, not Buddy.
Your Review: This book takes place back when African Americans were still not being treated to the fullest and lots of people could not find very profitable jobs leaving people to live in small poor towns where people are always coming and going from. It really teaches you about how determined people were to find somewhere where they and their family could be happy. It also shows how some kids who lived in foster homes and orphanages would abandon it all just to go some where from train to train just to maybe find a relative which is exactly what this book is about. A boy on the road looking for someone who he thinks is his father. I recommend this book to anyone who is a child and who likes adventure stories with kids there age who are still finding their place in this world. Overall I really liked this book and would read it again.
Summary: This book is about a girl that goes to Mica Area High school and everybody calls her Stargirl. They call her stargirl because she is different from everybody else in the school. One day she wore to school a 1920s flapper dress, an Indian buckskin, and a kimono. She carried around a ukulele and pulled it out at lunch and sang happy birthday to whoevers birthday it was. She also carried around her pet rat,Cinnamon. Everyone thought she was unusual and some people though she was a scam. page 7 "She's not real," Hillari said. She was sneering. "She's a sneering actress. It's a scam." Kevin one of Leo's friends said that stargirl should be on hot seat, Hot seat was their in school TV show where they interviewed a student every month. Leo didn't want to have stargirl on hot seat though so Leo and Kevin got mad at eachother. Everyone else thought Stargirl was weird, but Leo wanted to be her friend. Throughout the book Leo and stargirl became friends.
Review: I would recommend this book to 5th and 6th graders because if a third or fourth grader read it, it might be confusing for them. I would recommend this book to people who like reading about people who aren't afraid to be themselves. I personally enjoyed the book it was very interesting and I didn't find any of the parts boring. My favorite part is when Stargirl and Leo started going out. Overall I think that it was a good book and you should definitely read it.
I feel like you are giving the whole book away. I do not think I would like this book. Also why is she called stargirl it does not seem like a name that she would earn if she was weird.
Are you saying that 3/4 aren't cabable of understanding, but seriously, I thought your summary was "great" and it sounds like a good book. Also, can you tell me why Stargirl dresses the way she does. Why did you like the part when the dated?
I have read Stargirl and I thought it was really good. I read it in 3rd grade and understood it, so I think that if they really wanted to they could read it.
Book Title: Stargirl Author: Jerry Spinelli Number of Pages: 186 Genre: Realistic Fiction Main Characters: Leo, Susan(Stargirl), Cinnamon Setting: Mica Area High School, Arizona
Summary: The Stargirl is described as a girl that is much different than all the other girls in the book. She wears different things that nobody would think of wearing like a wedding dress as the author puts it on page 4, "And then I saw her. At lunch. She wore an off-white dress so long it covered her shoes. It had ruffles around the neck and cuffs and looked like it could have been her great grandmother's wedding gown. Her hair was the color of sand. It fell to her shoulders..." She also did unusual things like bring her pet rat Cinnamon to school or bring a ukulele and sing happy birthday to whoevers birthday it was. Stargirl is unlike people so some people didn't like her. Leo on the other hand is like everyone else but slightly different while everyone else thinks that she is weird and doesn't want to hangout with her he is confused. He is friends with stargirl through the book and their relation always changing. The book is about how one girl goes into a school and changes how everyone thinks and feels and goes through some tough and easy times. Review: I really enjoyed his book because it was both funny and sad and it showed how the characters felt about each other and left you on the edge of your seat. My least favorite part was probably when stargirl tried to be like everyone else instead of how she really is. My favorite part was probably when Cinnamon the rat started to lick leo's ear and he freaked out. I would recommend this book to the 5th and 6th grade girls or whoever is looking for a really good book to read.
Book Title- Maximum Ride Author-James Patterson Number of Pages-240 Genre-Fantasy Main Characters-Max,iggy,fang Setting-in a world similar to ours The theme of my story is there is a group of kid that have not your average life. They are a
group of teens that have wings in a not so average world. The youngest is kidnaped and they
are now attempting to save her. Now they are venturing out into the world to save her little
sister. How cleshay is that!
I like the book due to its comic style layout. When she is Interrogated at the end.I liked the style and did not like the beginning. Nobody, it's not a great book but it worsens the worst.

Book Title: Uncertain Glory Author: Lea Wait Number of Pages: 193 Genre: Historical Fiction Main Characters: Joe Wood Charlie Farrar Owen Bascomb Miss Nell Gramercy Setting: Wiscasset, Maine during the Civil War, April 1861 Joe needs to work extra hard to get the money in time that he owes Mr. Shuttersworth, and with Owen and Charlie's help he can do it. But when Joe and Owen and Charlie's trio gets all shaken up because Charlie tries so hard to get his father to join the group of soldiers but will not, and when he finds out that Joe and Owen's fathers are enlisting he storms off and that just leaves Joe and Owen. Things go crazy again not long after Owen's father enlists. This happened after Owen bragged to all his friends that his father was going to be the best soldier ever. They got into a fight and Owen got punched in the nose and blood went everywhere, but he just told everybody that he ran into a tree. When he figures out his father can't enlist he gets really upset. This happened because 'white' people didn't want 'colored' people marching along side them and fighting for their country. And Owen runs away. He was gone for about 36 hours and broke his leg pretty badly. Joe's team may be shaken up a bit, but he'll never give up. He will get that money to Mr. Shuttersworth and do whatever it takes to get there. Joe is determined and will not lose his printing gear. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes books about the civil war. I thought it was a great page turner and I wanted to keep reading more despite it being historical fiction, which isn't my favorite. My favorite parts are when Nell is in the story, but it's the absolute best when she's talking to the spirits. She has to be my favorite character in the whole book. My favorite part is when they fix Owens broken knee and you figure out Nell is being drugged by her Aunt and Uncle and she goes to live with Joe. I thought this was a great book and I think anybody else will too.
I like how you said things like " a great page turner" because it makes me want to read it more and more. I think that it sounds like a very interesting book by the way you have discribed it.
Main Characters: Hattie, Charlie, Mrs. Brown, Ruby, Mr. Ned, Perilee, and Maude

Hattie then after a while was asked to go to San Francisco and mend and sew costumes for a circus like thing where they do magic and walk on thin rope across the stage They do a bunch of different stuff. Then after a little bit of being in San Francisco she was asked to be a custodian at Chronicle Building which is a news place where they make the newspaper for San Francisco. She is working for a company and she can not see her daughter because Ruby can not afford for he and her daughter to live together in the same house. She was also before cleaning some rooms and found one room with some books and she started reading them wrote some facts down. So she already had some stuff to write about. She read about some history. During the end of the book Hattie meets up with her friend Charlie and they get back together.
Review: How did you like the book, and why? What was your favorite part? What did you like the most/the least about this book? Who would you recommend it to, and why? I liked this book a lot because of the detail that the author added. I also liked this book because of the way the author had the characters talking and last but not reason is I like to read books that talk about the old times and this book really made me feel like I was in the book and that is why I really enjoyed reading this book. The most that I liked about this book was that I really like I was in it and the fact that the author made you want to keep reading the book. The least part of the book that I liked was the beginning of the book. It was just a tad bit boring. I would recommend this book to anybody who likes Little House on the Prairie because the way that the author wrote this book is sort of like Little House on the Prairie. Hattie Ever After is a little bit bigger than Little House on the Prairie. Little House on the Prairie was a small town and only had one News Reporter total. The life in Walnut Grove was a lot different than in San Francisco. San Francisco was a lot bigger and had a lot morre more stores. If I tell you anymore there will be no since in reading Hattie Ever After.
I LOVE LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE!!!! So I think that I would love this book. I want to read this book some time, when I have time. Thank you for sharing this lovely book review and summary for us all!!
Why did you choose to read that book? Did you think that the coverr looked great, or did you read the back of the book and say to yourself " The back of the book looks good so I'm going to read it. "

Sisters THREE WEEKS TWO SISTERS. ONE CAR A TRUE STORY
Book title: sisters Author: raina telgemeier Number of pages:: 197 genre: Graphic novel main character{s}: Raina, Amara, and Will Telgemeier. setting: san francisco
summary: the telgemeier family are taking a road trip to colorado for a family reunion. But along the way there is a lot of Mess ups along the way So it is not the best road trip ever. dad was not with them Because he had to work, So He took a plane Instead of driving The rest of the family . The main Point of the story is how Rina And Amara Bond together and become friends. Once Rina Amara will and mom get to Colorado where the reunion takes place Rina figures out that her cousin Lindsay has changed in the past few years that they have not seen each other, when Raina arrives she joined a game of cards with her other two cousins Josh and Jeremy while she deals with them they are like how they always are and calling her Penelope like usual.
Review:I liked the book because it had a lot of twists and turns and changed moods It can be exciting sad and happy. Favorite part was when Mom and we'll hitchhiked because they broke down right off the highway in the middle of the desert and will and mom got a ride to get help and left Rina And Amara to watch their stuff in the car and Rena and Amara both got scared because mom and will were gone for longer than they thought. What I liked most about this book was that it can show how much sisters act with each other, the thing that I dislike the most was when Lindsay, Rena, Josh and Jeremy had the karaoke party because it was a little dull and had no excitement. I would Recommend this book to 3rd through 6th grade and people like graphic novels about family and drama Because it has lots embarrassing funny and lesson learning moments.
Miri is a mountain girl who wants to work in the quarry, but she doesn't understand why her father doesn't let her... until one day. A soldier came to their house wanting Miri, and her sister. They wanted to take them to the princess academy to learn how to read\write\etc. for the prince because the prince was becoming of age to have a wife. Miri didn't want to go, but she had no choice. Her sister was around two months old because nobody could go to the academy that was older than the prince. So Miri went. She learned many things, and she even taught the teacher a lesson with her class. Then at the end, an unexpected thing happened. But I will let you know that I can't tell you what that thing is, you have to read to find out, and I won't tell you who the prince picked either. READ IT TO FIND OUT.
I would personally recommend this book to 6th graders and older, because there are some difficult moments.. Like, " 'You're the troublemaker," he said, and his mouth stank of meat. ' I'll see you broken, and dead.'"( page 266 ) I think that that line could be hard for some people to read if they are sensitive. But, I will admit, there are some nice moments in there, like the part when Britta was scared to see the prince, and Miri tried to make her feel better even though she thought that she was likely to get to be the princess, until she heard the whole story, but I won't tell you about that, you'll have to read it and find out on your own.
This book sounds really reallly good ans also when you said that you reccomend to 6th graders was a good choice because I did not understand that sentence when I first read it.
Because I was trying to explain why maybe a 2nd grader might not want to read it, because it is kind of a sesitive line, just like some of the other lines in that book.
Title: Ungifted Author: Gordon Korman Number of pages: 280 Genre: Realistic Fiction Main characters: Donovan Curtis, Chloe, Dr. Schultz, Abbigale, Noah, Tin man Setting: In Donovan's home town. Mostly in the gifted program.
Summary ‘’Oh no’’, I said frozen. ‘’Did you do this’’, said Dr.Schultz, the superintendent.
Donovan Curtis (also called Donnie) never fit in with anyone. He was bad. He destroyed, yes, destroyed a school gym with a stick and an Atlas statue. Two days later he got a letter. His parents opened it. He was cringing. Kill me already, he thought. ‘’WOW, the gifted program’’, his mom said,’’Don’t the smartest kids get into that?’’ He was relieved but thought there was a mix up. ‘’Hello Donovan, welcome to the gifted program’’, said the teacher. Chloe Garfinkle looked at him strangely. He was normal, this was weird. Chloe was the first to accept Donovan and be friends with him, or so she thought.. Since normal was so weird they never heard of a dance, so then something really, really big happens about a school dance and, you will have to read the book to find out because I would give so much away.
Review I was honestly so sad when I finished this book because this was my favorite book EVER. My favorite part of the book is at the dance and and two kids steal a robot and everybody gets in a cat fight. I would recommend this to people like me and people who like hilarious books. I can’t even tell you how much I enjoyed this book. I believe anyone from 4 or 5-8 GRADE should read this, it is really great, but anyone can read it if they want. THANKS!!!

Just like the typical middle schooler, he deals with the struggles of finding friends, getting along with his peers, and discovering a way to fit in. Author R.J. Palacio created the most realistic characters, making this compelling story very believable. This story will be memorable for anyone who has the opportunity to read it.
Book Title: Scorpia Rising

Genre: Realistic Fiction
Galen
DeleteWhat do you mean when you say he is a school boy?

Review: I liked when they were fleeing from the slave traders and got into the fight with the SQ. I would recommend this book to anyone in 5-8 grade because it is an enjoyable book while you are still learning about history. It also has some challenging words for all ages.
Is this supposed to say warped from 911? I also wonder how to pronounce the names they all seem to be futuristic versions of modern day names would that be correct? What is SQ? Galen
DeleteGalen it is suppossed to say warped away from 911.

DeleteBook :Title Bud not Buddy
ReplyDeleteAuthor: Christopher Paul Curtis
Number: of Pages 236
Genre: Realistic fiction
Main Characters: Bud
Setting : Flint Michigan, and The Grand Rapids
Summary: This book is about 10 year old Bud who lives in Flint Michigan moving from foster home to foster home and the orphanage in between. His mother had died when he was young but he still has memories of her and one thing of hers he will never let go of. A flyer for a concert with a man on the front who bud things is meant to be his father. One time he was at a foster home where his "brother" was very mean to him so he decided to get revenge but that wasn't smart because the brother got angry and Bud had to sleep in the shed but he broke out at night got his ver treasure suitcase and got out of there. After a day or two he found his friend bugs who decided that they would go west in search, well actually neither of them new at the time. After making it to a small poor town they learned that the train the would be boarding actually would have people fending them off and when a crowd of hundreds of people rushed the train.
Book Title: Stargirl
ReplyDeleteAuthor: Jerry Spinelli
Number of pages: 186
Genre: Realistic fiction
Main Characters: Leo, Susan (StarGirl)
Setting: Mica Area High School
DeleteAre you saying that 3/4 aren't cabable of understanding, but seriously, I thought your summary was "great" and it sounds like a good book. Also, can you tell me why Stargirl dresses the way she does.
DeleteWhy did you like the part when the dated?
Braxton sh named herself that because she does not like the name susan.
DeleteBraxton I'm just saying the main idea of the story I'm not giving away the whole book. There is a lot more to the story.
DeleteI have read Stargirl and I thought it was really good. I read it in 3rd grade and understood it, so I think that if they really wanted to they could read it.
DeleteBook Title: Stargirl
ReplyDeleteAuthor: Jerry Spinelli
Number of Pages: 186
Genre: Realistic Fiction
Main Characters: Leo, Susan(Stargirl), Cinnamon
Setting: Mica Area High School, Arizona
Summary: The Stargirl is described as a girl that is much different than all the other girls in the book. She wears different things that nobody would think of wearing like a wedding dress as the author puts it on page 4, "And then I saw her. At lunch. She wore an off-white dress so long it covered her shoes. It had ruffles around the neck and cuffs and looked like it could have been her great grandmother's wedding gown. Her hair was the color of sand. It fell to her shoulders..."
She also did unusual things like bring her pet rat Cinnamon to school or bring a ukulele and sing happy birthday to whoevers birthday it was.
Your review sounds a whole lot like emmas. On the other hand, I enjoyed your description of Stargirl and it sounds like a great book.
DeleteThat was my least favorite part as well. I don't think you should have to change to fit in.

The theme of my story is there is a group of kid that have not your average life. They are a
group of teens that have wings in a not so average world. The youngest is kidnaped and they
are now attempting to save her. Now they are venturing out into the world to save her little

I like the book due to its comic style layout. When she is Interrogated at the end.I liked the style and did not like the beginning. Nobody, it's not a great book but it worsens the worst.

DeleteBook Title: Uncertain Glory
ReplyDeleteAuthor: Lea Wait
Number of Pages: 193
Genre: Historical Fiction
Main Characters:
Joe Wood
Charlie Farrar
Owen Bascomb
Miss Nell Gramercy
Setting: Wiscasset, Maine during the Civil War, April 1861
Joe needs to work extra hard to get the money in time that he owes Mr.
DeleteI would be one of the people that would the book and I think Owen had a broken leg instead.

Review:
How did you like the book, and why?

TWO SISTERS. ONE CAR
A TRUE STORY
Book title: sisters
Author: raina telgemeier
Number of pages:: 197
genre: Graphic novel
main character{s}: Raina, Amara, and Will Telgemeier.
setting: san francisco
summary:
the telgemeier family are taking a road trip to colorado for a family reunion.
This souds like a great book Maddy! Thank you for sharing this with us!:)
DeleteMaddie I have read this book before to but, I think you should add three more main characters. They are Mom, Dad, The two older boy cousins.
DeleteI've read this book before and it was impressive how you covered mosst of the story without giving away the important details.
DeleteMiri is a mountain girl who wants to work in the quarry, but she doesn't understand why her father doesn't let her... until one day.
ReplyDeleteA soldier came to their house wanting Miri, and her sister.
This sounds like a really good book. I think I would love this book. Your summary was great. I want read this book.
DeleteThis book sounds really good book and this summary was really great.
DeleteI thought it would've been all girly but it isn't and sounds like a good read.
DeleteI would personally recommend this book to 6th graders and older, because there are some difficult moments.. Like,
ReplyDelete" 'You're the troublemaker," he said, and his mouth stank of meat. ' I'll see you broken, and dead.'"( page 266 )
I think that that line could be hard for some people to read if they are sensitive.
DeleteWhy did you chose that sentence from your book?
DeleteBecause I was trying to explain why maybe a 2nd grader might not want to read it, because it is kind of a sesitive line, just like some of the other lines in that book.
DeleteOh that makes my more sense.
DeleteI like how you used dialogue and described why you thought that this would be good for six grade and above

Setting: In Donovan's home town. Mostly in the gifted program.
Summary
‘’Oh no’’, I said frozen.
‘’WOW, the gifted program’’, his mom said,’’Don’t the smartest kids get into that?’’
He was relieved but thought there was a mix up.
Review
